Myopia Control
Myopia (or nearsightedness) is a vision problem that causes blurry distance vision and can lead to eye health complications later in life. Myopia often begins in childhood, making it crucial to control it early.
We participate in the MiSight Vision Diffusion Optics Technology pilot program and also offer several myopia control methods, including ortho-k contacts and MiyoSmart eyeglass lenses, to help your children see clearly inside and outside the classroom.
Dry Eye Treatment
Dry eye is an ocular surface disease that causes eye irritation, blurry vision, watery eyes, and more. Our optometrists want to help you find relief. We start with a dry eye screening and offer personalized treatments, including IPL therapy, radiofrequency treatments, and ZEST.
Take back your eye comfort.
Vision Therapy
Vision therapy is a customized program designed to help correct visual conditions in both children and adults. It can help address issues like lazy eye (amblyopia), crossed eyes (strabismus), eye misalignment, focusing problems, and even reading and learning difficulties.
We implement innovative vision therapy methods like the VTS4-HoloLens and Vivid Vision VR to find new ways to help.
How Often Should You Go to the Eye Doctor?
Regular eye exams are an important part of preventive healthcare. Our optometrists can help create an exam schedule that works for you, and we recommend the following exam frequencies:
- Children: School-aged children should get an eye exam every year.
- Healthy adults (20–64): At minimum, healthy adults should have an eye exam every 2 years.
- Adults (65+): Anyone 65 and older should have an annual eye exam.
Our eye doctors may recommend a different exam schedule based on your risk factors and unique eye health needs.
What Does OD Mean for Eye Doctors?
An OD is an optometrist who has completed a Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree, a 4-year program following a bachelor’s degree. They act as your primary eye care provider, similar to a family doctor for your eyes. ODs can diagnose and treat common eye conditions, prescribe medications and corrective lenses (glasses and contacts), and perform routine eye exams.
Ophthalmologists also provide eye care, but they are medical doctors (MD). While they can provide general eye care, their primary focus is diagnosing and treating complex eye diseases. They may use surgical options when necessary, but they also offer other treatment methods like medications and lasers.
What Happens During an Eye Exam?
An eye exam with our optometrists in Markham includes a detailed discussion about your overall health and a thorough history of your eye health. Your exam may also include:
- A discussion of your current eye problems or concerns
- Vision tests to assess near and distance vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision
- Tests that check the alignment of your eyes and pupil reflexes
Eye pressure tests to screen for glaucoma
